Tips from Jonathon Lee
- Create a centrepiece where possible, for example: a mirror above a mantel, or a painting centered over a sofa.
- In groupings of art, centre them to each other to make the eye run smoothly through the room.
- Hang paintings lower to emphasise ceiling height.
- Unless you have the right equipment, hanging heavy paintings or mirrors on plasterboard walls is best left to a professional. It will work out cheaper in the end.
- When buying art, aim for an investment period of 10 years or more.
- Don't get caught up in the "gallery hype" of the so-called next Brett Whiteley. Choose your art carefully, selecting artists that other established artists respect (we call them "Artists' Artists").
